This innovative, commercial center by Estrella Associates, Inc. is the first commercial building in San Luis Obispo County to receive a Gold Pre-Certification from the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Core & Shell (LEED-CS) Green Building rating system. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measure. The LEED-CS rating system promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in six key areas of human and environmental health.
Estrella Associates collaborated with Leonard Grant Architecture (LGA), to design this LEED building to enhance the existing community. River Oaks Center will consist of two buildings with a combined total of 50,000 square feet of floor space. Potential uses include a gourmet grocery store, specialty retail, coffee bar, café, deli, wine tasting, professional office space and other neighborhood services.
The buildings are designed in a Prairie architectural style. This design concept relies on linear geometry and topographical relationship to the agrarian nature of the surrounding hills and large oak trees. The first of the two buildings was completed in the Fall of 2009.
River Oaks Center offers environmental, economic, community health and safety benefits while reducing the impact on local infrastructure and natural resource consumption. River Oaks Center received the 2009 Beautification of the Year Award, and national acclamation as the ICF Builder BEST Light Commercial Award recipient.
